Hello Again!


It's been a while, hasn't it? Oops. I am truly sorry for that, and I just felt that I had to put a post together just so you know I haven't vanished off the face of the Earth.

Recently I've just felt so unmotivated to just sit down and write to my hearts content. Maybe this is just a phrase of blogging, and everyone gets through it, or maybe it is something more personal and it a emotional block etc. I don't know.

Anyway, after looking through all of the lovely posts you readers have created while I have been away, it has made me take a look at my blogging and tell myself that I need to get my butt back into gear and tackle the unmotivation, instead of let it take away one of my greatest passions. So, I guess this post is just a note to say I am still here, and I will be posting regularly from now onwards. See you in the next post!

GGL | Healthy Living


Welcome to the second post on the Girls Guide To Living series! This week we will be talking about healthy living, what it entails and how to stay fit and healthy. Now, I'm not the fittest, nor the healthiest person out there by far, but I do know a bit about health and healthy living from years of picking up tips from friends and family!

Eat a variety of foods. Again the old saying comes up, but eating your 5 a day makes such an impact on your body. I don't think many realise how important this is. I shouldn't really be the person that is your inspiration to eat 5 fruit or vegetables a day, because sometimes I forget, but I am really making an effort lately to make sure I get at least 5 different fruit or vegetables into my body.

Get plenty of sleep. I know for a fact that if I don't get enough sleep, I will turn into this grumpy, moody person for the rest of the day! This isn't good for anyone; yourself or those around you. Part of  a healthy lifestyle is maintaining a healthy mental lifestyle too, and annoying the people you spend the most time with isn't a good way to keep your mental health healthy too, is it? Just another thing to add; if you don't get enough sleep, then it messes up your hunger emotions so you will end up eating more than you usually would.

Keep stress levels down. Everyone experiences stress sometime in their lives, it is natural. However, if you are stressed constantly, this is a bad sign for your mental, and physical health. A good way on how I deal with stress is to leave the stressful thing for a few hours, clear your head and enjoy something like spending time with friends or family, and then return to your 'thing' with a clear and refreshed mind. Not only will this reduce your stress levels, it will also help your motivation and keep inspiration flowing!

Look after yourself. I always feel unmotivated and uninspired when I am not feeling my best due to lack of self care. It is important to look after yourself as well as looking after others. If you are feeling a bit urgh, why not take a shower and spoil yourself to those lush products you have been saving for a special occasion? Or change into one of your favourite outfits and strut your stuff? However you want to pick yourself up, once you do it I will guarantee you that you will instantly feel better about yourself and be on the road for inspiration and motivation!

GGL | Social Media: Inspiration or Not?


For the next few weeks; Angharad, Emily, Emily and myself will be hosting a Girls Guide To Living (GGL), which will give you a guide on how to lead a healthy, happy lifestyle. GGL is being created to provide you with motivation and enthusiasm to change your life for the better; whether it be stop worrying about what others think, or tips on a healthier lifestyle, we have all got advice on how to be the best that you can be.

To kick off the series, we are going to be talking about social media, and how far should we take it as inspiration? Modern society has us obsessed with it: I know so many people who absolutely love it - and although I do too - I can see some flaws in it which I realise can seriously damage someone's self esteem.

So much pressure is put on people these days with social media; whether it be to take the right picture that matches their feed, use the 'right' filter, or hanging round with the 'right' people, I can't quite get my head around it. It is human nature to project only our best selves onto social media sites, just so we can keep up with the latest trends. So many people are put under this pressure daily, and it can seriously affect their mental and physical health, which is a major concern. I've come up with some tips to prevent you from letting the pressure affect your health and self-esteem, and I hope they help.

Accept that nobody is the same in real life. If I were to see my friends Instagram profiles without actually knowing them, I would have the complete wrong idea of what they were like as a person, and what their interests were etc. After realising this, I am always careful to tell myself that those perfect Instagram profiles only reflect about 20% of their actual life. Even those perfect Instagrammers have bad days, greasy hair and friendship issues occasionally, and I think it is really important for people to realise that. Don't compare your 100% self to someone else's 20%.

Limit your time. How many of you have been in company of a friend or family and have literally watched them scroll through their Twitter feed instead of spending some valuable time together? *puts hand up and waves it frantically in the air* Yep, we all have them. It may sound blunt, but quite frankly, I find it rude. You are in the company of another human being, but instead you would prefer to read what people you have never even met are up to via tweets?!

Rant aside, limiting the time you spend on social media is a great way to keep yourself feeling positive about yourself. I limit myself to 10 minutes a session, maybe in the morning, midday, and the evening. In total that is half an hour, which may seem a lot to some people, I find it quite reasonable in comparison to some other people. I also try not to go onto social media while I am in the company of other people, instead chat to them about various different topics. This way, you not only will benefit yourself, you will also earn yourself a reputation for being a nice, sociable person (always a bonus).

Take pride in yourself. I don't know many people these days who are completely happy with their lifestyle and the way that they live. Although I can't change the way you think - I'm no mind controller - I can tell you that you have nothing to worry about. I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason, and that includes you. Whatever you do there is always a reason behind it, and usually it is a good one. I'm not religious, but I do choose to believe that God made you who you are, and everyone should respect you for it. Everyone is unique, even your identical twin won't have the thing that makes you, you. Take pride in yourself, show off to other people - they honestly don't have any right to make a comment. Go on - I dare you to post something on your social media platforms which you normally wouldn't!

I Made Cookies



I realised the other day that I haven't shared a recipe post for ages, so I thought I needed to fix that - quickly! In case you don't already know, I love baking and sharing my favourite recipes with you, so a few days ago I baked some gooey chocolate cookies; and they turned out delicious. The ingredients are super simple - things you will most likely have in your cupboards or fridges, so there is no excuse to treat yourself to these circles of delicious-ness!


Ingredients (makes 12-14)
200g of butter/margarine
300g of caster sugar
1 egg
325g of self-raising flour
200g of milk chocolate chunks


Preheat your oven to 200°C, and cream your butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy. Crack the egg into the mixture and mix in, being careful not to make your mixture curdled! Gradually add flour bit by bit until you form a sort of dough. 

With clean hands (because we all know that you have been nibbling the mixture as we have been mixing!) break up the chocolate into chunks if you have a bar, or add the chocolate chips. Make 12-14 balls of cookie dough onto a greased baking tray, and bake for 10-12 minutes. I baked mine for 11, but you can decide! Don't bake them any more, they will look like they need to be in the oven for longer; but don't be tempted, because when they have cooled down they will be gooey on the inside and crispy on the outside - yum, yum!
